Introducing Ruchir Vinay!

June 12, 2013 - Wednesday

After 2 months and 9 days, our 2nd kid (born April 3rd) got his first identity!

Henceforth, he will be called 'Ruchir Vinay'

For the folks interested in the name, 'Ruchir' means, 'Radiant' / 'Handsome' / 'Lovely'. It was originally used to describe Lord Rama in the epic Ramayana meaning "Handsome". Another origin stems from the word "Suruchipoorn" meaning 'Having good interests'.

In hindsight, most of meaning finding came into play only after we had decided on the name ;-). We liked the name and then went with the meaning.

The Naamakarana event:

We had booked the 2nda and 3rd floor halls of the 'Subrahmanya Matha', which is inside the premises of the Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple, adjacent to APS College Grounds at Basavanagudi.

Breakfast and Lunch were prepared by the Matha itself.

Breakfast with Hot Idly, Sambhar, Chutney and Kashi Halwa was served from 8:30 AM onwards. The piping hot sambhar with Mangalore Cucumber on Idlies gave us just the kick start that we needed to run with the program! Breakfast and Lunch was on the 2nd floor while 3rd floor was used only for the Function.

The 'Muhurata' (auspicious time) within which the naming ceremony had to be completed was between 8:30 AM to 10:45 AM. The function duly began at 9:00 AM and the Poojar was gracious enough to explain the rituals with all the meaning behind it. His style of delivery of hymns were pretty musical, audible and soothing to the ears.

The 'Baje - Benne' event:
The poojar made us prepare the 'Baje-Benne' paste (Gold Ring used to churn the paste on a 'Saane Kallu'!) and then a droplet was smeared on the tongue of the baby.

Writing the name on a Silver plate full of rice:
The next event needed me to write the names that we have chosen for 'Kula Naama', Maasa Naama, Nakshatra Naama and Vyavahaara Naama' on a Silver plate full of rice.

'Kula Naama' (Name for the genealogical ancestors)  - 'Venkateshwara'
'Maasa Naama' (Name for the birth month) - 'Pundarikaksha'
'Nakshatra Naama' (Name for the birth star) - 'Bhaga'

Finally,
The 'Vyavahaara Naama' (Transactional Name) - 'Ruchir'

Naamakarna:

The event was followed with the actual Naamakarna where I, Soujanya and Kruthi ('Sodara Atte') had to whisper the 'Vyavahaara Naama' in the right ear of the Baby for 3 times.
Thanks a lot, Kruthi ! :-)

We visited the Subhramanya temple in the campus followed by Paadapooje of parents. Overall the function progressed smoothly and got completed by 11 AM. The little one received loads of love, blessings and a lot of gifts as well from the loved ones.

Lunch was served at the 2nd Floor by 12 PM and the food was delectable! Everybody seemed to enjoy the food and so did we. The sweets in included 'Mysore Pak' and 'Hayagriva'.

The function brought a lot of joy to all of us and many thanks to all the near and dear ones who blessed the little one on this auspicious day.

Here are some photos taken during the event.

Sobalakki Event:
The Sobalakki function was performed at Soujanya's maternal home. The small little function started at 4 PM in the evening. Soujanya and Ruchir then arrived at 'Vinayadeep' along with her Parents and elders at 7 PM where the little one was welcomed with an Arathi at the entrance. Later Ruchir was placed at the Pooja deck at the 'Deveramane' and took the blessings of the gods.

The event was followed by a Dinner and the chief guests of the day were the newly married couple of Kiran (Souji's cousin brother) and Deepthi.
